THANK YOU!

Thank you for your interest in AFSCME Local 4041. The following will give you a brief overview of what AFSCME is all about.

When you join AFSCME Local 4041 you become a member of the only union in Nevada that has protected State employees’ rights for over 50 years. Some of AFSCME Local 4041’s accomplishments have been:

  • Put a stop to the Department of Personnel trying to get rid of Catastrophic Leave for state workers.
  • During Legislative Session AFSCME Local 4041 helped push for a 2% pay raise and step increase in 2005.
  • The Department of Corrections resolved the lawsuit in federal court by agreeing to a "meet and confer" agreement in which workers will be able to sit down with wardens monthly to discuss workplace issues, conditions and administrative regulations
  • Creation of the grievance procedure with binding arbitration.
  • Longevity Pay; Shift Differential; Standby Pay; Call Back Pay and Tool Allowance.
  • Pay for unused sick leave.
  • Deferred Compensation program and Flex Benefits plan.
  • An equitable layoff rule based upon seniority.
  • Continuation of state-paid health insurance while on leave without pay due to on-the-job injury.
  • A legal provision to protect employees from dismissal when they run out of sick leave due to on-the-job injury.
  • Catastrophic sick leave.
  • Through court action, SNEA was solely responsible for getting the 1991 pay raise that the governor took away.
  • Enactment of a good tough Whistleblower law.
  • Winning many millions of dollars in back pay awards and incorrect retirement withholding for employees through legal action.

And, we continue to represent State employees by lobbying to get AFSCME Local 4041 bills passed, and by lobbying to kill bills that would not be in the best interest for state employees. When the Legislature is in session, you can be sure AFSCME will be there to watch out for you.

GET INVOLVED...AND RECRUIT

There are many ways you can get involved and make a difference. Attend chapter meetings; serve on a chapter committee; run for a chapter office; let your co-workers know that AFSCME Local 4041 is there to protect state employees’ interests . . . and . . . recruit new members.
