health INSURANCE UPDATE |
|
It is time for state workers to wake up and stand together to fight for
your retirement benefits. In this next legislative session, it appears
that public employees retirement is coming under attack once again. There are those who believe that the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), should be changed from a system providing all public employees with a defined benefit to one providing contribution. Some of you may recall that this matter came up during the last legislative session and was unsuccessful. The defined benefit pension plan is an essential part of your retirement security. We will be calling on all state workers to join us in the battle to protect the retirement benefits we currently have. We will be working closely with the Nevada State AFL-CIO and other public employee unions, such as SEIU and the teachers union during this fight. Changing the plan to a defined contribution plan would shift the investment risk and responsibility to workers and reduce corporate costs. We will keep you posted as the session progresses. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting one of our AFSCME Local 4041 offices. |
